Eight Winters, One Spring

Acrylic on canvas, 40 × 40 in

Dark, heavy tones ring the outer edge of this canvas and slowly give way to a vibrant, glowing center. It represents eight years — eight winters — of chronic pain and recovery, and the single spring that finally broke through.

I built this one from the outside in, on purpose. You have to paint through all that dark before you get anywhere near the color.
