The Fragment and the Whole

Acrylic on canvas, 34 × 44 in

Bold, deliberate brushstrokes cut through a field of fractured, broken-up shapes. The title borrows from one of the Buddha's final teachings — that everything composed is subject to change and decay, chaos included.

I don't paint the fragments to make them whole again. I paint the stroke that moves through them anyway — proof that something can still move forward even when it's made of broken pieces.
